CHICAGO, IL – A town hall addressing the “Family Perspective of Pediatric Acquired Brain Injury” took place this morning at the The Irish-American Heritage Center. The town hall was comprised of local families who have a loved one with pediatric acquired brain injury.

Natalie Forberg spoke about her experience with her daughter whose brain injury occurred after she was struck by a motor vehicle. Ms. Forberg said that after her daughter’s brain injury she “had to immediately become an expert in brain injury in the medical and education worlds, which was difficult.”

Another parent, John Stewart, whose daughter has been living with a brain injury since being diagnosed with encephalitis at age 10, discussed how “awareness of brain injury across the board is not as high as other issues,” and noted that “awareness is a very extensive process that needs to be paid attention to.”

The event was a part of a national brain injury awareness tour organized by the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation www.thebrainproject.org
